Your Farmers’ Market Guide: How to Eat Locally Just About Anywhere

July 29th, 2010 | Tags: , , , , , ,
If you live in Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis or New York,
there’s yet another reason to visit the farmers’ market this summer! The Third
Annual Epicurious Farmers’ Market Tour is visiting all of these cities, over
the next few weeks.

Visit their booth to try out their new iPad app, nab a
free reusable bag and even sample some free delish chocolates (free chocolate
has no calories…right?).

Not around one of the cities? Busy or already missed out
on the tour? You should still gather your canvas totes and get to the farm
stand. Summer is high season at the farmers’ market, so check out
localharvest.org to find one near you. Bring a pal along for a cheap healthy
way to send your Saturday. And don’t forget to chat up the farmers to find the
freshest picks and even get some recipe inspiration–farmers tend to have lots
of what they grow and know how to use it.

Of course, we’ve also got some ideas. Check out some of
our Eat Like Me and Healthy SELF blog posts for some healthful
inspiration. First up: Five fabulous farmers’ market finds and how to make them
into a mouthwatering sandwich. Next: Nutritionist-recommended summer food
swaps. What’s your favorite part about farmers’ markets?
